New ‘How to Rent’ Guide

The government have released the latest How to Rent Guide.

Yesterday(Friday 24th March 2023) saw the government release the new How to Rent Guide.

The How to Rent Guide is an online document which provides guidance to tenants on the rental process in England and Wales. Every tenant must be issued with a copy of the guide at the start of their tenancy. The Guide is full of useful information. It details what responsibilities a tenant has, as well as the legal obligations a Landlord has to adhere to.

The new edition of the How to Rent Guide is to be used on all new tenancies moving forward. If landlords or letting agents do not issue tenants with a How to Rent Guide, or use an old edition, they will run into problems! To effectively serve a Section 21 notice to gain possession of a property, a Landlord must have issued the tenant with the latest How to Rent Guide on the commencement of the tenancy. If they haven't issued the How to Rent Guide the Section 21 notice will be invalid.
